I am Remie Janssen, a mathematics researcher turned software developer.
My research field would best be characterized as ‘theoretical bioinformatics’: I mainly worked on algorithms and mathematical structures related to bioinformatics problems. The focus was mainly on phylogenetic networks, a mathematical type of graph suited to represent evolutionary histories.
As a software developer, I have worked at Nelen & Schuurmans, a consultancy and IT bureau in the world of water management. I mainly worked on a new version of the Lizard API, N&S’s GIS/data warehouse solution for water management data, consisting for a large part of geospatial data. I was also responsible for setting up the backends of two new products: the ‘Klimaatmonitor’ and the ‘Wereldwijde Schadeschatter’.
Currently, I’m working at the RIVM as a DevOps engineer in the ‘Bio-informatica en Rekenen’ group.
